The village of Market Bosworth is a market town that, close by, was the location of the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485 between King Richard III and Henry Tudor involving some 11,000 men with Richard III being the last King of England to die in battle, and it was this battle that proved decisive in ending the long running civil wars. The town of Market Bosworth had first been settled around 1048 and there is more to the town than the famous battle described above. The town centre is a Conservation Area with many old buildings around the market place, gaining its Royal Charter to hold markets back in the 17th century and today the market is still held every Wednesday with a wide variety of items on sale whilst on the fourth Sunday of every month there is the Farmers Market. Within walking distance of the town centre there is the Bosworth Water Trust, consisting of a 20 acre lake for fishing and sailing and offering camping facilities, whilst the Bosworth Country Park, to the east of the town, provides some 80 acres of open park with arboretum, play areas and footpaths that welcomes many residents and visitors throughout the year. In short the charm of Market Bosworth lies in its history and convenient location.
