Lying close to the borders of Oxfordshire and Warwickshire is the small town of Oxhill in the Vale of the Red Horse which is to be found just below Edgehill and is so called from the figure of a horse that was once carved into the red clay of the hillside. Tracing its history back to the time of the Domesday Book the village was then known as Octeselve, evolving over time to as it is today. Throughout its history the village of Oxhill has relied on agriculture and farming for its economy located as it is in the heart of the countryside. The present village hall located in the village dates back to 1876 when it was opened, not as a hall but, as the village school which closed just after the war and was passed to the villagers as their hall. Dating from the mid 12th century the Church of St Lawrence in Oxhill provides an interesting architectural detail with later additions to the chancel and nave in the19th century. Today Oxhill is a residential village, local shopping would be undertaken in Tysoe, some two miles away whilst for those requiring more retail therapy there is Shipston on Stour around five miles away. Nonetheless Oxhill is a super little village, nestling here in the rolling countryside of South Warwickshire
