Willingham is a large pleasant village positioned on the edge of the Fens, in the County of Cambridgeshire, and is home to just over three and a half thousand people. It dates as far back as Saxon times and has a diverse, and interesting history from the ancient road where hundreds of Pilgrims in centuries past made their way to Ely Cathedral just ten miles or so away, playing host to Henry III in 1244 who stayed here, to witnessing the arrival by parachute of a German Spy during the second World War. At the heart of the village stands the impressive 13th Century Church with its pinnacled tower and ancient wall paintings, close by there's a delightful Village Green and old water pump, and a good range of shops lining the High Street and Church Street, there's also three welcoming pubs to enjoy and a restaurant or two to try; and for those visitors who wish to linger there's a choice of places to stay. Farming has played an important role throughout the ages due to the fertile, dark soil which provided the small farming community with an abundance fruit and flowers in the past, and, although on a smaller scale still continues today.
