Silverstone is a medium sized village in Northamptonshire, England. It lies roughly in the middle between Northampton, Milton Keynes and Banbury, and has a population of about 2,000. In the Middle Ages trade was primarily in timber from the surrounding Whittlewood forest, through the use of coppicing. Linnell Brothers still operate a woodyard there to this day. Fishponds to the north side fed the villagers and the village is listed in the Doomsday Book. A good run of court rolls survive for Silverstone among the archives preserved in Northamptonshire Record Office. There are two public houses serving good food, The Royal Oak and the White Horse. The village also has a Post Office and a general store selling most things. There are several guesthouses within the village, Whittlebury Hall, a 4 star hotel and conference centre in neighbouring Whittlebury and other accommodation in nearby Brackley. About half a mile to the south of the village is the world famous Silverstone motor racing circuit. The circuit is on the site of RAF Silverstone and is often dubbed the home of British Grand Prix, having held its first GP in 1948 and still hosting today.
