Not far off the M40, a few miles south-east of High Wycombe, in Buckinghamshire, lies the leafy village of Wooburn Green, on part of the flood plain for the River Thames. It is in the valley of the River Wye and this feature led to the water mills and paper-making becoming a very important industry here. The last paper mill, Glory Mill, closed in recent years. Wooburn Green offers quite a choice of pubs and bars, including the Queen & Albert (pub on the Green), the Chequers Inn, the Glory Mill and the Falcon (all with real ales and the last 2 also serve food), amongst various other establishments. There are a few restaurants here, including Bombay Dream and the Old Bell – a pub for the last 2 centuries but now with an oriental restaurant too and offers B&B accommodation. Hotels are available close by in High Wycombe or Windsor. To work-off calories consumed there is a choice of health clubs. Next Generation is family-orientated and offers racquets sports, swimming, spa, gym, etc where-as Odyssey Glory Mill is a luxurious health club, located on the banks of the River Wye.
