Westbury on Trym is an ancient town in the county of Bristol, home to over ten thousand people. The River Trym meanders through the town that's positioned just a couple of miles from the City of Bristol with it's fabulous ancient cathedral. If Georgian architecture is preferred there's the Georgian House Museum nearby which tells the spellbinding story of West Indian Merchant John Pinney, who lived there with his slave Pero, fascinating exhibits tell an intriguing tale of what life was really like. No visit would be complete without seeing the Clifton Suspension Bridge that majestically spans the Avon Gorge, a masterpiece of Isambard Kingdom Brunel where stunning views and it's story is best enjoyed during the tour, for a further insight into the master of engineering climb aboard the SS Great Britain, which was the first ever iron hulled ship. Younger visitors will be eager to try Touch and Groom at Horseworld, where Horses and Ponies are waiting to be met, or for animals of a different kind perhaps Leigh Woods Nature Reserve will have the answer, for answers to questions yet to be asked, there's the scintillating hands on exhibits at Explore At Bristol, an amazing Science Museum whose Planetarium is out of this world.
