Highclere is a quiet village on the Berkshire Hampshire borders, home to just over a thousand people. The leafy lanes and pretty views of the surrounding woodland and countryside beckons eagerly to cyclists and walkers, and the traditional cottages and lakes tempt the artists to reach for another brush. Close by is Highclere Castle, this Victorian masterpiece of architecture is built in stunning Parkland on the foundations of a Medieval Palace, with sumptuous staterooms, impressive staircase, and intricate ceilings, makes a visit worthwhile as it is home to the impressive Egyptian Exhibition which may be seen when the Castle is open. Perhaps the thought of a beautiful Water Mill set in a lovely garden, on the River Lambourne whilst enjoying a brilliant performance will tempt a visit to the Water Mill Theatre, where the fabulous entertainment ticks all of the boxes. For links with history, and a journey never to be forgotten it has to be the Kennet Horse Boat Company, whether you glide along in a Barge or opt for a Horse Drawn Boat Ride along the Kennet & Avon Canal the scenery and wildlife is ever changing. Or how about Whitchurch Silk Mill, which is an 18th Century Water Mill that is a working Museum still producing high quality silks from it’s Looms today, the fascinating story is waiting to be shared……
