Lambourn is a large village nestling in the Lambourn Valley, near to the Berkshire Downs in the County of Berkshire, and is home to nearly three thousand people. The village has links far back into history and Bronze Age Burial Mounds are plentiful here, complete with an ancient Market Cross dating back centuries in the Market Square, where the weekly tradition continues today. At the centre of the village stands the Norman church of St Michael and All Angel’s although it replaces much earlier centres of worship. The village is famed for it’s prominent links with the horse racing fraternity as it has many stables where fine thoroughbreds are trained in the sport of kings, and can often be seen on the Berkshire Downs. For lovers of all things historical Tom Brown’s School Museum is housed in an unassuming schoolroom that dates back to 1617, with interesting exhibits that tell many stories from the past. Or perhaps the Vale and Downland Museum will tempt a visit as it details rural life and cultural heritage of the Vale Of the White Horse, the exhibits give an insight into fascinating times long past and the children’s discovery area keeps fidgety hands occupied.
