Charlton is a delightful hamlet in the heart of the Sussex Downs in West Sussex, close to Singleton, peppered with 17th Century houses, and the historical city of Chichester. Walkers and lovers of the great outdoors can explore The South Downs Way which winds through stunning countryside, or perhaps the glorious setting of Goodwood will be favourite for the races, time it right and the fabulous Festival of Speed will be on, where racing cars, motorcycles and evocative vintage cars take centre stage. For a glimpse at Mother Nature's palette it must be Earnley Butterflies and Gardens where colourful tropical wonders won't fail to please. Artists will be hushed as they capture the beauty of Halnaker Windmill which dates back to 1750, or for answers into secrets of the past there's the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum which has treasures dating back to the 13th Century. Chichester Cathedral dominates the skyline and it's majestic architecture, gem coloured stained glass windows and vaulted ceilings ensure an intriguing visit, if the choir is in full voice, close your eyes and time reverses instantly. If shopping is yearned for there's the Boardwalk, and if that's not enough walking then why not stroll around the Medieval walls edging the city, or enjoy the delights of the harbour.
