Ballsbridge is an up-market district of Dublin, located in the south- east part of the city. But for all of its exclusivity, embassies and diplomatic residences, Ballsbridge has long been welcoming to visitors and happy to invite huge crowds of people to sporting and musical events in various major venues. Until its demolition in 2007, the Lansdowne Road Stadium was the scene of many international rugby and soccer matches, and now a spanking new 50,000-capacity, all- seater stadium is being built on the site with a view to reopening in 2010. Also in Ballsbridge is the famed RDS, an important centre for conferences, trade shows, concerts, sports events and hospitality. While catering in an exemplary manner for contemporary needs and interests, Ballsbridge at the same time remembers the past. The National Print Museum, housed in a former military chapel, exhibits all kinds of machinery and items that explain the rise and demise of printing skills in Ireland. Around and about the district, the Georgian architecture so typical of Dublin co-exists pleasantly with Victorian and Edwardian buildings. Ballsbridge remains part of a wonderful city while sustaining a unique identity that's evident not only in its wealth but in its village atmosphere and nightlife.
