Aberfeldy is a small town and burgh in Perth and Kinross on the right bank of the River Tay, 5km downstream from Loch Tay. Aberfeldy is surrounded by breathtaking mountains and the picturesque landscapes of highland Perthshire making it an ideal location for holiday makers, there are many hotels and holiday accommodation. Aberfeldy was awarded Fairtrade Town status in 2002 and has a variety of stores, shops, restaurants and takeaways around the main square. The town is abundant with natural waterfalls, magnificent scenery and historically interesting structures including the Aberfeldy Bridge built in 1733, crossing the Tay on the north-west side of Aberfeldy to Weem, it is a humpbacked, five arched bridge 112m long and 4.5m wide with stone obelisks at either end, the parapet gives it a distinctive appearance. Next to the bridge on the bank stands the Black Watch monument commemorating raising the regiment in 1740. Visitor attractions include the restored Aberfeldy Water Mill and Dewars World of Whiskey at Aberfeldy Distillery. Walking areas include the Falls of Moness and the Birks of Aberfeldy. Robert Burns wrote about the area following his visit in 1787. Fishing is popular in the area, there is an 18-hole golf course, putting green and children’s play park. Loch Tay offers many water-sports.
