Chessington is a town in Greater London just north of Leatherhead and home to nearly 23,000 people. The Hogsmill River runs through the town, and the church of St Mary’s dates back to the 13th Century which makes for an interesting interlude. For lovers of architecture a visit to ‘Homewood’ displays the Modernist ideal of a house coupled with delightful garden, or perhaps the majestic 17th Century Stuart Mansion of ‘Ham House’ is more for you, set on the banks of the River Thames, and has an astounding treasure chest waiting to be discovered of fine paintings and scintillating furniture. Outside why not explore the Ice House and Dairy, what more could be wished for … perhaps green Parakeets, then look carefully at the Walnut and Chestnut Trees in the Outer Courtyard. Epsom Race Course offers the chance to don a dazzling ‘titfer’ which should be eagerly taken on Ladies Day, home to ‘The Derby’ offers an exciting insight into to the sport of kings. Of course ‘Chessington World Of Adventures’ is a must, with toe curling thrills on adrenaline pumping rides, with names such as Vampire and Dragon’s Fury. Or the children’s Zoo will put smiles on faces, or be prepared to be amazed at the Sea Life Centre complete with walk through Tunnel and everything from Star Fish to Stingrays…. ..
