Petersham is an attractive village that's positioned on the River Thames and close to Richmond Hill in the County of Surrey in South East England. The village dates back to Saxon times and beyond and still has large, impressive houses and cottages lining the roads which were built to house the fashionable society who liked to escape to this rural location set between Richmond and Ham. The Thames River curves here affording spectacular views across the surrounding countryside, and the ancient meadows situated off River Lane which still plays host to grazing cattle. A stroll around the village will uncover an ancient church dedicated to St Peter which was built in the 13th Century although a church has been on the site since Saxon times. Visitors will enjoy a welcoming pub which is next door to the 18th Century white boarded Village Watchman's Hut, there's a good choice of B&B's and an impressive hotel with outstanding views for those who wish to stay for a while, just as the great writer Charles Dickens did when he penned his novel Nicholas Nickleby in the village, and, as it is only a few miles or so from the bustling centre of London it's perfectly placed
