Carrbridge is a village in the Badenoch and Strathspey area in the Cairngorms National Park in the Highlands of Scotland, situated 10km north of Aviemore, surrounded by spectacular mountains and heather-covered moor-land. Carrbridge was the first of the Scottish ski villages with the Slochd Pass summit reaching 1332ft and offering instruction in Alpine and Nordic skiing. The village is named after its famous landmark the ‘Old Bridge’ built c1707; the curved single span packhorse bridge is the oldest stone bridge in the Highlands. It stands over the Dulnain River which flows east into the River Spey. The railway arrived in 1894 with Carrbridge station on the Highland Main Line. Carrbridge is a popular tourist resort with many hotels and guest houses, a spar-shop, village hall and Old Bakery with coffee shop, home baking and local crafts. Attractions include The Landmark Forestry Heritage and Adventure Park at the south-end of the village with interactive Highland exhibitions, water-slides and woodland family activities including nature trails and forest walks in the ancient Caledonian pine forest. Other activities in Carrbridge include pony-trekking, a 9-hole golf course, a bowing green and mountain biking. Carrbridge is noted for hosting unusual events including the best Porridge Making competition and a chain-saw carving competition.
