Plockton is a small village in the north-west Highlands of Scotland, situated 5 miles north-east of Kyle of Lochalsh on the south shore of Loch Carron. The village has been used to film scenes for TV programmes including Hamish Macbeth starring Robert Carlyle, The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries and the film The Wicker Man. Plockton is a traditional fishing and farming village, it has preserved its heritage with the help of the National Trust for Scotland and is a popular tourist resort. The small scenic harbour is decorated with Palm trees and a row of little cottages and is haven for artists. The village has restaurants, a takeaway, hotels, b&b’s, self-catering cottages and a guest-house with an art gallery. Historical structures include the19th century Dunscraig Castle. Activities include fishing and golfing, there is a swimming pool, beaches and walks including Brae Walk with beautiful views across Plockton Bay, Loch Carron and the Applecross Hills. There is also a loch-side walk to Dunscraig Castle. There are small crafts for hire and sea trips organised to spot the seal colonies around the lochs. Nearby attractions include the Craig Rare Breeds Farm, with rare Scottish farm animals and Lochalsh Woodland Garden maintained by National Trust for Scotland
