OldMeldrum is a small town in the Grampian Highlands, Aberdeenshire, near to Inverurie, close to the main road from Aberdeen to Banff, in north-east Scotland. OldMeldrum was created a burgh in 1672. Durring Christmas in 1307 the earl of Buchan’s army were housed in Old Meldrum, prior to their defeat at the hand of Robert the Bruce on Barra Hill, which overlooks the town standing 634 ft high. OldMeldrum has had a settlement in the area since prehistoric times and an Iron Age hill fort once stood on Barra Hill. The town lies around the main square it has a Town Hall with clock tower, library, shops, amenities, pubs, Inns, b&b’s, holiday cottages, guesthouses and hotels; one dating back to 1673. The church of St. Matthew and St. George was built in 1863 with an octagonal spire beside the nave and chancel. OldMeldrum is surrounded by beautiful countryside with the Grampian and Cairngorm ranges, the area is abundant with historic buildings and castles. To the north is Meldrum House with Golf Club The OldMeldrum Golf Club has is a challenging 18-hole course which has been played for 120 years. The Glengarioch Distillery dates back to 1797 producing a single malt whiskey, it is open to visitors for tours.
