Kirkmichael is a small village positioned on the northern bank of the Dyrock Burn in Ayrshire, Scotland, and is home to fewer than five hundred people. The village evolved in the 13th Century after a church was constructed by the Burn, which was dedicated to St Michael, from which the village took its name, remnants of the ancient Kirk remains today. A new church was built in the 18th century which has attractive gem coloured stained glass windows. A gentle walk will discover a wealth of white stone cottages, and houses that link with the 18th Century when they were first built for the Weavers who toiled here. Holiday makers swell the numbers of this quiet village as it's surrounded by stunning dramatic Scottish scenery, walkers enjoy stepping out on the Cateran Trail which journeys through, together with the hills which dominate the skyline. This is no shopping metropolis, however it does have a fine General Store stocking that oh so essential item, there's also a restaurant, a pub, and a comfortable hotel for those who wish to stay for a while longer, and as it is only ten miles or so from the busy town of Ayr it's perfectly placed.
