Colonsay is a small island off the west coast of Argyll in Scotland, part of a trio of Hebridean islands which includes the isles of Islay and Jura. The capital of Colonsay is the village of Scalasaig where the ferry terminal links to the mainland and the other isles. There are also small villages at upper and lower Kilchattan and farms and crofts scattered over the island Colonsay although sparsely populated is still a popular tourist resort complete with facilities and amenities, there is a hotel, a shop, a post office and a tea shop in Scalasaig. Historically interesting features include Colonsay House built in 1722 with 30 acres of mature woodland gardens famous for the collection of rhododendrons. Colonsay boasts one of the finest unspoilt beaches in the Hebrides at Kiloran. Attractions include walks with spectacular scenery and views looking across to the coast of Northern Ireland, and over to the famous Paps of Jura.
