Craignure is a small picturesque village on the Isle of Mull in the Inner Hebrides lying off the coast of Argyll in Scotland, situated east of Tobermory; the main village on the island. Craignure was developed c1894, purposely built for its location at the most easterly point on the island, as the site of the ferry terminal connecting Mull to Oban on the Argyll mainland, the ferries started operating and the settlement steadily grew. Craignure has one of the three ferry terminals on the island bringing with it numerous tourists to this popular holiday location. The village has shops and amenities, a variety of accommodation ranging from hotels to a 5*campsite, restaurants and pubs. There are walks, climbing, canoeing, fishing and seal trips available along with many tours designed to take in the history, geology and wildlife of this ancient isle. Attractions include the 13th century Duart’s Castle; home to the clan MacLean, which sits overlooking the bay and the harbour, the Isle of Mull railway is a narrow gauge railway linking Craignure to the tourist attraction Torosay Castle; a Victorian mansion which was built in 1858, it has idyllic gardens and inside there is a portrait of William Wallace dating from the 17th century.
