Strachur is a village on the east shore of Loch Fyne on the Cowal peninsula in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, with Loch Eck running parallel to the village on the south-east side. Strachur is an original stronghold of the clan Campbell; historically interesting features include Strachur Parish church dating back to 1789 with grave-stones dating back to 1300 and Strachur House dating c1780 built by General John Campbell. Tourism has been major industry since the early 1900s with steamers touring around Loch Eck and travelling along the Firth of Clyde from Strachur pier in the harbour heading to Glasgow. There are holiday accommodations and plenty places to eat in the area including world famous sea-food restaurants, the village is surrounded by lochs, rivers, mountains and beautiful scenery it has an inn, shops and amenities. Attractions include Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, with boat charter, boat cruises and holiday parks. Loch Fyne is the third longest sea-lochs in Scotland with marine wildlife cruises, diving charters and fishing charters. Lochgoilhead has an outdoor activity centre in the Argyll Forest Park and motor-boat hire on Loch Goil. There are a number of golf course, walks and places to fish. Dunoon is the principal town in Argyll and is the location of the annual Cowal Gathering (Highland Games) held each August.
