Latest reviews | Events in Pen Y Cae | 10 Places to Stay

As part of the walk along the Coed Morgannwg way, visitors often climb Mynedd Pen-y –Cae at the head of the Cynon valley, to enjoy the spectacular views from its 1830ft high summit. This area is well suited for sports enthusiasts as caving, kayaking, go-karting and quadbiking are all available locally. Absolute Adventures are based here and keen horse riders will be well catered for by local Pentre stables. Those who prefer to be passengers will enjoy the Brecon Mountain Railway which provides a comfortable way to enjoy the scenery. Adelina Patti, the greatest soprano of her day, will always be associated with her home at Pen-y-Cae. She gave it the romantic name of Craig-y-Nos (Rock of Night) spending over forty years and a small fortune refurbishing it as a Gothic castle. Once fallen into disrepair - it’s now restored as a fine country hotel. A stay here or more economically at the self-catering farmhouse, located within the castle estate, provides rejuvenation after all this strenuous activity. Sci Fi enthusiasts may recognise the local Penwyllt Inn used as a TV series location, but you can’t stay here unless you are a serious caver - it’s reserved for private use! .
