Flint( Welsh - Y Fflint) population approx 11,000, is situated on the estuary of the River Dee 5 miles north of Mold on the A5119. The third largest town in Flintshire, it was once the port for Chester. Flint has the oldest (C13) town charter in Wales. Views to the south of the town include the spectacular Halkyn Mountain ridge. Brian Fell's iconic sculpture “ Footplate “can be seen the local railway station. The now ruined remains of Flint Castle stand on rocks overlooking the coastal marshes and have a unique feature in the great Tower or Donjon which was intended as a final place of retreat duting seige - it had its own well and was set apart from other structures. It is said this area is steeped in the supernatural - locals recount that hidden on Flint Mountain stands haunted Pwll-yr-Wrach, "The Witch's Pool”. The myth alleges Henry VII often hunted in the area and one of his soldiers drowned an old woman in the pond believing her to be a witch. Ever since then the, reputedly bottomless, pool has attracted legends galore of strange inhabitants and offerings of flowers are often to be found on the banks.
