Newcastle Emlyn is a charming, small, town located 14 miles northwest of Carmarthen on the A484. The town developed around the C13 castle overlooking the river Teifi – though only ruins remain today. During the C18 and C19 this was an important part of the drover’s route through Wales - these days it is less busy. Newcastle Emlyn itself contains some quirky individual shops including the two-part Sioux & Hat Box worth a visit for a range of yarns, beads and accessories as well as the more obvious hats! Ededa J for clothes and Fleurs de Paris ( rumoured to have royal patronage ) for decorations and gifts also makes the high street tempting but if shopping is not your thing, the countryside around here is well worth exploring. You are within easy reach of Cenarth Falls and The Coracle Centre. The Old Cilgwyn Gardens are only a mile north and there is good signage to The Woollen Museum and The Museum of Welsh Childhood. As usual, the pretty country lanes are dotted with farmhouses offering accomodation - either B& B or with camping facilities. The Lamb at Rhos is a well known meeting point, famous for good food and hospitality.
