Seaview is perfectly named. Situated to the east of Ryde, the village looks out over the Solent's expansive waters dotted with picturesque boats and fluttering sails. Local activity centres on the sea: this is a yachting centre, a popular location for swimming and windsurfing, and - with its golden sands - a hit with beach-lovers. There is, around the village, a lingering sense of its Edwardian history, with the old buildings, tiny streets and alleyways conjuring delightful echoes of the past. The Saltern cottages recall a time when the people who lived there worked in salt pans. Outdoor activities are well provided for in and around Seaview. Walkers enjoy the sights of Seagrove Bay and the stroll along the seafront into Ryde. Golfers and riders have a number of courses and stables to choose from only a couple of miles from the village. One of the island's top attractions is the award-winning Seaview Wildlife Encounter, a centre working for animal, bird and plant conservation. It boasts one of the UK's biggest tropical aviaries, and it encourages visitors to feed and stroke various animals. Only a little further afield, Fakenham Farm, St Helens, and Brading Roman Villa make for rewarding visits.
