Onchan is scenically located on a headland not far north of Douglas. Although many now regard it as part of the capital, Onchan has many popular attractions of its own. The one-time village has grown to include a shopping arcade, an 18-hole golf course and a large pleasure park containing a boating lake, miniature golf, crazy golf and putting, facilities for tennis and bowls, kiddie cars and a stadium for stock-car racing, karting and football. Three beautiful national glens converge at Onchan. The wooded Groudle Glen, with its winding walks, affords glorious sea views on its pathway to the coast. Close to here, the tiny Groudle Glen Railway is open during the summer, taking passengers to the site of a former Victorian Zoo at Sea Lion Rocks. Molly Quirk's Glen and Bibaloe Glen are both mountain glens, the former following the Groudle river and the latter, a stream. In the heart of town, another attraction for nature- lovers, Onchan Wetlands, is filled with all kinds of plants, trees and birds. It's close to the small, thatched Molly Carrooin's Cottage, which makes for a striking contrast with the grandeur of Government House. Visitors to Onchan are also conveniently placed for Douglas's exciting nightlife.
