Blair Drummond was originally an estate in Scotland situated one mile south of the village of Doune and four miles north-west of Stirling on the south-bank of the River Teith. Historically interesting buildings in the policy lands include the impressive baronial house built c1868, the stable block built in1835 with clock-tower added in 1871, the 19th century Ice House, the Tudor Lodges and the Mill of Torr. Blair Drummond has a selection of holiday accommodation including a caravan park and it is a popular tourist destination attracting golfers, walkers, cyclists and nature-watchers. Callander Golf Club is set in the heart of the Trossachs and there are way-marked cycle routes through the National Park. The main attraction in the area is the Blair Drummond Safari and Leisure Park, established in 1970’s, it includes over 300 animals, a drive-through animal reserve, pet farm, boat-ride to chimp island, Sea-lion and birds-of-prey displays, adventure areas, restaurants, snack bars and picnic areas Nearby stands the 14th century Doune Castle, occupied by Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Jacobites in 1745 and in the grounds of Balquhidder Church, lies the grave of the legendary Rob Roy McGregor. Stirling has a wealth of attractions on offer from excellent shopping to open-top bus tours of the historic sites including Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument, and the Bruce Heritage Centre.
