Great Broughton is a picturesque village on the edge of the stunning countryside of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, two miles south of the town of Stokesley, adjacent to the Cleveland Hills in north east England. The village is located on the Cleveland Way and provides an ideal place to use as a base for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors and surrounding countryside. On the north east coast, locations such as Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes and the delightful Runswick Bay are all easily accessible, with Whitby and Scarborough only a few miles further down the coast. Inland, another well-known landmark is the formation of rocks known locally as ‘The Wainstones’ to the south of the village at Hast Bank. Wainright’s famous 'Coast to Coast' walk passes close by. During the 19th century the local economy was largely dependant on Jet mining, and evidence of the drift mining that took place can still be found at Cold Moor and Hasty Bank. Close by at Ingleby, on the site of a former clay pit, in a sheltered location within pleasant, natural surroundings, is a one and a half acre mixed species course fishing lake, featuring largely carp but also roach, bream, tench, perch, including plenty of doubles.
