The revolutionary theorist had rather bourgeois tastes: he wrote to Engels in 1879: “We are giving up St. Aubin's [hotel] because Jessy and I have a horror of a monotonous daily lamb and mutton diet, as a result of which I have become a reluctant vegetarian over the past few days.” They moved to the Hotel de l’Europe.
