Born 1936 - English actor, singer and director and all round cheeky chirpy cockney.
Made stage debut in variety at Empire Theatre, Sunderland in 1956. Success as pop singer in 1950s and 1960s. Appeared in musicals most notably Half A Sixpence (1963-64) and stage version of Singin’ In the Rain (1983).
