Born 1926 - English actress, best known in Coronation Street.


She joined the Adelphi Guild Theatre in Macclesfield in 1949, and then went into television with plays such as Jacks and Knaves (1961), before being cast in her most famous role, Hilda Ogden in Coronation Street. This role earned her the Royal Television Society’s Best Performance award (1984-85). She later appeared in The Last of The Summer Wine and the film Scandal (1989).
