Born 1929 - British creator of television programmes.

He is best known for his pioneering puppetry work and special effects in the highly successful television programmes Fireball XL-5 (1962-63), Thunderbirds (1965-66) and Captain Scarlett and The Mysterons (1967-68). He later branched out into live action shows – with humans ! – such as The Protectors (1972-74) and Space 1999 (1975-77). He returned to puppetry for Terrahawks (1983-84), and was awarded an MBE in 2001.
