She started her career as a fashion artist for Harper’s Bazaar magazine, but after marrying producer John Halas in 1941 they formed the Halas-Batchelor animation unit. During World War II they made propaganda films, followed by the first British feature-length cartoon, Handling Ships, in 1945. Other films include The Owl and The Pussycat (1952) and George Orwell’s Animal Farm (1954).
