Born 1886. Died 1965 - English pioneer of radio.

Trained as ship’s radio operator. Became resident engineer in Sydney for the Marconi company. Received morse code signal in Sydney from North Wales in 1918. Made first human voice contact between Australia and England in 1924. Established Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia) Company becoming managing director and chairman. Returned to England in 1944, on retirement in 1951 returned to Sydney. Knighted in 1937.
