Published his first book, a fairy story, The Brown Owl (1891) and a novel The Shifting of the Fire (1892). Wrote various works with Joseph Conrad. Founded the English Review in 1908 and founder-editor of the Transatlantic Review in 1924. Wrote over 80 books. Best known for The Fifth Queen (1906), The Good Soldier (1915) and Parade’s End (1924-28).
