A much loved comedian, best known for his radio series Hancock’s Half Hour (1954) utilising his comic persona as a pompous misfit. The series was brought to television (1956-61) with huge success, featuring fellow comedians such as Sid James, Bill Kerr and Kenneth Williams. Suffered from depression and tragically committed suicide
