Born 1957 – English golfer.
Turned professional in 1976. Became youngest member of the Ryder Cup team at the age of 21. One of the leading players on the European Tour in the early 1980s. Won his first major title in the British Open in 1987. Over his career he has won three Open Championship titles and three US Masters titles. Voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1989, and was awarded the MBE in 1998.
