Best known for his two books An Enquiry Concerning Political Justice, an attack on the institutions of law and marriage, and Things as They Are: The Adventures of Caleb Williams (1794) which attacks artistic privilege. Married Mary Wollstonecraft and had one daughter Mary who married the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley.
