Born 1764. Died 1845 - English statesman.

Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. Elected to Parliament in 1786 at the age of 22, became one of the major leaders of the Whig party. The Whigs lost power in 1807 and he remained in opposition until 1830 when he became Prime Minister. His ministry saw the passage of the Reform Act 1832, reform of the House of Commons and the abolition of slavery. Earl Grey tea is named after him.
