Studied art at Newcastle. Best remembered for being one of the three poets in the best-selling anthology The Mersey Sound, with Brian Patten and Roger McGough. Leading member of the poetry band The Liverpool Scene, which released four LPs of poetry and music. Awarded the Freedom of the City of Liverpool for his contribution to Liverpool's cultural scene.
