Born 1924 - Radio astronomer and Nobel Prize winner.

Studied at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, completing his degree after WWII. Known for his work on the development of radio aperture synthesis and its role in the discovery of pulsars. Shared the Nobel Prize for physics in 1974 with Martin Ryle. Made a FRS in 1968. Was Professor of radio astronomy at the Cavendish Laboratory from 1971 to 1989 and head of the MRAO (1982-88).
