At Christ Church College, Cambridge Huxley studied physics, his period at university interrupted by WWII when he served in the RAF and helped with the development of radar. His great contribution to science, however, came in biophysics, where he developed both a model of how muscles work by contraction of sliding filaments, and the means to observe this that were of value in other physiological studies. Huxley worked at various academic and research institutions including MIT, Brandeis, UCL and Cambridge.
