James Jeans
Born in Ormskirk, LancashireBorn on 11th of September 1877
Died on 16th of September 1946
Ormskirk-born James Jeans became second wrangler, an incredible feat given he took the relevant exams after just two years of undergraduate study. He went on to become a noted cosmologist, astronomer and physicist, teaching at Princeton and Cambridge. Though he published many academic papers of significance, the popular works of science and scientific philosophy he published after retirement such as ‘The Universe around Us’ may have had a greater impact on the world.
