Jekyll, who had trained as an artist before problems with her eyes pushed her towards the bigger canvas of gardens, formed with Edwin Lutyens one of the great partnerships of British design. Her colourful gardens complimented his Arts and Crafts architecture, though at her home, Munstead Wood, it was the house that was designed to complement the garden she had previously established
