BOOK BRIDLINGTON HOTELS

Alfred Matthews
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Bridlington, East Yorkshire
Born on 22nd of November 1869
Died on 25th of July 1960

Matty as he was affectionately known in the acting world was a successful stage actor before beginning his long film career in the silent movie days. He was never a star name, but equally he never lacked for work, appearing in character parts in such classics as The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, Doctor at Large, The Way Ahead, and Whisky Galore. Aged 89 he made news by protesting against unsympathetic ‘improvements’ planned by the council in his street.
