John Mayow
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Bray, Cornwall
Born on 24th of May 1641
Died in 1679

Mayow studied law, but became a medical doctor enjoying success in his practice in Bath. He was a pioneer in the field of research into respiration and the nature of air, discovering that there was a component of air rather than all of it necessary for life, and argued correctly that the lungs were responsible for capturing this component and delivering it to the blood. In 1678 he was made a Fellow of the Royal Society.
