BOOK BLOOMSBURY HOTELS

Charlotte Mew
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Bloomsbury, London
Born on 15th of November 1869
Died on 24th of March 1928

Charlotte Mew is perhaps as interesting for her life as her poetry, the oft-occurring insanity in her family leading Charlotte and her sister to swear never to marry to prevent its continuance. She wore dandified masculine clothes and preferred her hair very short, so the marriage-avoidance pact may have been rather irrelevant. Her poetry was admired by Virginia Woolf, Thomas Hardy and other contemporaries, and ranged across a variety of styles and topics. In a deep depression she committed suicide.

Brit Quote:
Somebody said to me, 'But the Beatles were anti-materialistic.' That's a huge myth. John and I literally used to sit down and say, 'Now, let's write a swimming pool.' - Paul McCartney
