Christopher Nevinson
Born in Hampstead, LondonBorn on 13rd of August 1889
Died on 7th of September 1946
Nevinson trained at the Slade, after which he immediately became embroiled in the sometimes back-biting world of the avant garde as a leading figure in the Futurist movement. He volunteered for the Red Cross in WWI, then became a war artist, probably his best work, although the realism with which he depicted the conflict and those in it annoyed government officials. After the war his work became gentler, with naturalist paintings of English landscapes and of New York most memorable.
