Born 1905 - Budapest, Hungary. Died 1983 - British writer and journalist, political refugee.


Studied pure science at Vienna. Political correspondent and scientific editor. Reported the Spanish Civil War, under death sentence by Franco. First novel in English Arival and Departure (1943). Later works included his masterpiece The Act of Creation (1964) and The Case of the Midwife Toad (1971). Member of Voluntary Euthanasia Society, committed suicide with wife when he became terminally ill.
