Born 1920 - Football commentator for BBC television.

Started his career as a journalist with a Manchester newspaper. Was a bomber pilot during WW11, won the DFC & Bar. Worked for BBC radio before moving to television in 1948. Was football commentator in the 1950s and 1960s. Best remembered for his commentary of the Wembley 1966 World Cup Final for the phrase 'Some people are on the pitch ... they think it's all over ... it is now!'
