Chris Tomlinson
Born in Middlesbrough, Cleveland and TeessideBorn on 15th of September 1981

Chris Tomlinson showed early promise while competing for Middlesbrough AC at the age of 10, mostly over 100m and 200m. Chris attended Nunthorpe Secondary School and holds many of its year group records for triple and long jump. In his early teens Tomlinson decided to concentrate on the long jump discipline.
It was a good decision and Chris showed great raw talent at both long and triple jumps and won eight AAA age group titles. In 2002, only three months after breaking both wrists in a freak weight-training accident, he jumped 8.27m at Loughborough to break Lynn Davies' British record which had stood for 34 years previously. He then cemented his reputation by winning the Scottish Championships and Aqua-Pura Commonwealth Trials. The European Cup was the stage for Tomlinson to notch up another victory.
The summer of 2002 was not as successful as he failed to jump eight metres at the Commonwealths, Europeans and World Cup when medals were seen to be well within his capabilities. His raw talent is there but consistency escapes him. In the build up to the 2004 Summer Olympics he was ranked number nine in the world for his event. But while Chris has excellent speed down the runway, he has always struggled in international meets to get the length of his run-up right.
Chris managed to increase his own record by a further 2cm, on the 7th of July 2007 in Bad Langensalza in Germany, by jumping 8.29m. In February 2008 Chris became the world's top long jumper of the year up to that point with a leap of 8.18m. He won the silver medal at the 2008 World Indoor Championships.
He now competes for athletics club Newham and Essex Beagles and was selected to represent Team GB at the 2008 Beijing Olympic games.
